Derech Halimud

The kollel’s derech halimud will be based upon
a very fundamental and rigorous learning
system that, with siyata dishmaya, leads to the
depths of the Shas. The system starts with
careful and precise readings of the Gemara
and Rishonim while listening carefully to what
the words say. When questions arise, the
learner must then examine and isolate the
source of the issue.

Sometimes one must work to refine previous notions, and then they can
be reconciled with the true meaning of the
words. Other times, questions are a sign that
one must exert more effort to understand the
true meaning of the words. Good questions
are very beneficial and serve as important
markers that helps direct one to the heart of
the sugya.

About the Rosh Kollel

Rabbi Nachum Meir Pollack grew up in the Chicagoland
area, and has learned in various Yeshivos. Since moving to
Israel he learned 6 years as a talmid of Rabbi Yaakov
Friedman shlita in Yeshivas Birchas Mordechai in Beitar,
followed by eight years as a talmid and chavrusa of HaRav
Dovid Siegel shlita, a distinguished Rosh Kollel in Kiryat
Sefer. He has earned much respect amongst his peers as a
ben aliya and lamdan. He
has seen much success
helping avreichim advance
in their learning and
a t t a i n d e e p e r
understandings of Torah.

About the Name

Kollel Ner Shlomo is named after Rabbi Shlomo
Yehuda Pollack z”l. Rabbi Pollack was born in
Sighet, Romania to parents filled with Torah and
yiras Shamayim. As a bachur, he studied in the
famed Yeshivas Chasam Sofer in Pressburg. He
miraculously survived the Holocaust; the sole survivor
of a large family. He continued on with his faith and
love of Torah to raise a beautiful family in Chicago. His
legacy continues today with children, grandchildren and
great-grandchildren that follow in his ways. One of his
grandchildren, Rabbi Nachum Meir Pollack, was
privileged to regularly learn Torah from him. He
credits his grandfather for instilling in him a true love of
Torah. Kollel Ner Shlomo hopes to spread the light
of Torah that Rabbi Shlomo Yehuda Pollack received
and passed on to others.
